Word Meaning
Salaf
Grammar: word;The word salaf means predecessor. In some Islamic literature, the first generation and the two generations that followed after the Prophet Muhammed (SAW) passed away are called al-salaf - the predecessors. Generally, they are considered to be the best generations of Muslims with the majority of the salaf being the Sahabah (or companions) of the Prophet and a few that came after him on the virtue of their faith, actions and their parents having been sahabah.
